Integrated Service Digital Network (ISDN) is the digital technology that carries voice calls, video, and data via a copper line to businesses all over Australia. Commencing 30th June 2018, Telstra announced that it would discontinue the sale of ISDN products for both retail and wholesale customers with intention to decommission the full ISDN network by 2022. Telstra is required to discontinue its entire copper network that is currently used to deliver these products to support the NBN Co rollout.

ISDN products will no longer be available for sale due to the supporting technologies and platforms nearing the end of life. Telstra will cease the sale of all ISDN2, ISDN 2 Enhanced, ISDN 10/20/30, DDS Fastway, Megalink and Frame relay products from 30th June 2018 with complete decommission by 2022. Approximately 92% of Australian premises are expected to be covered by the NBN Co rollout during this time.

What Can Australian Businesses Prepare Themselves?

Businesses who are using ISDN have a finite amount of time to find an alternative solution and plan a successful migration. To continue utilising fixed voice calling, companies will need to engage new phone system technologies to maintain everyday business communication activity. Cloud Private Branch Exchange (PBX) is a designated telephone network traditionally used within a company or organisation for Voice over IP (VoIP) ISDN or analog. Many businesses can now save on expensive telephony hardware due to advances in technology that mean that PBX hardware no longer needs to be purchased or held on-premises. Managed service providers (MSP’s) help businesses save on the financial outlay and resource management of telephony hardware and offer advice, set-up, and management of sophisticated PBX systems.

Reliable VoIP/ Internet Bundling Options Offer Reliability.

A strong internet connection is essential to business success and must be able to support voice and cloud technologies as well as regular business activities. Poor bandwidth can result in poor audio quality and an intermittent, unreliable service. A trustworthy option is to bundle VoIP with your internet with a hosted PBX service that ultimately means businesses can rely on call quality and their connection and have professional technical support on hand.

Benefits Of A Cloud Phone System

  • Quick set-up
  • Superior call quality and reliability
  • Flexible service
  • Reduced downtime and increased productivity
